Magnetic Dip


1) Magnetic dip at a place is define as the angle between the earth magnetic field lines and the horizontal line at that place. It is denoted as α



Here

BE is earth’s magnetic field lines.



H is horizontal and V is vertical.



Now the earth’s magnetic BE field making an angle  α with horizontal.

On resolving  BE



We get along the horizontal

H = BE Cos α

Along the vertical

V = BE Sin α
