Resistance connected
in series
1) Suppose R1,
R2, & R3 resistors are connected in series,
with a potential difference V of a
battery. As shown in the diagram
2) Suppose I current is flowing through them.
3) As resistors are connected in series current I will pass through all of these
resistors.
4) And applied potential V
is the sum of all potentials across each resistors. Then
V = V1 + V2 + V3
Now we know that
V1 = IR1
V2 = IR2
V3 = IR3
5) Then suppose Rf is the final resistance of all the combined resistors then
V = IRf
Therefore we get
IRf = IR1 + IR2 + IR3
Therefore
Rf = R1 + R2 + R3
6) If n no of resistors are connected in
series then the resultant resistance of all the resistors is
Rresult = R1 + R2 + R3 ……………. + Rn
